If your recent past involved searching homes for sale in San Antonio, you found a winner, set a moving day and that day has arrived, you’re probably experiencing all the stressors associated with preparing the move, all the while wondering if you’ll accustom to the fast-approaching summer and the unpredictable San Antonio weather that goes along with it. Before searching for dog parks in San Antonio, You’ve got to get here first.

You’re making a list but…

— don’t forget to factor in your furry friends.

Tips for you’re furry friends on the move

No matter where you decided to put down new roots in San Antonio, Texas, there are plenty of dog parks available, and the best dog parks in San Antonio have plenty of greenways, water available with some having fencing.

(Click here to learn about the San Antonio Greenway trail system that will one day ring the entire city.)

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves — you have to move here first.

Lists

Medical records.

When moving to a different city, one of the main things you need to consider is finding a new vet that is the right fit for you and your pet. Sometimes, this may take trial and error or even take some time to make a decision based on word of mouth and recommendations by new friends after your move.

Once you find one, have your current vet transfer records to the new caregiver and check into scheduling a “get to know you” appointment shortly after.

Transportation.

Whether a short drive or a plane ride, your pet will likely make the trip in a carrier. This can be a foreign concept for your pet and they’ll require time to get comfortable with it. Start acclimating your pet early while still in their familiar surroundings and use comfort items and use comfort items like treats, favorite toys, and blankets to make the experience a positive one.

Acclimation.

If able to, pad your moving schedule with ample time to introduce your dog or cat to their new home and start getting them acclimated.

While the rash of activity with movers and your stress, endeavor to keep the pets safely tucked away from the traffic to help ease their stress. Once all of the strangers are gone, clear out anything posing a hazard, block off areas as necessary, and allow your pets to get the lay of the land.

After that?

Take a break — find some Hill Country Wine and take your furry one to the park — there are plenty to choose from and hopefully, you’ve found a home near one of the top-rated parks. It’s a pet-friendly town, so there are many to choose from.

Health Up! Holiday’s are Over

January 24, 2022 by clucas Leave a Comment

Goal Setting to Health Up

Everyone knows what goes hand-in-hand with the holidays — family, crowded homes, and lots of food. It’s time to health up for spring and summer.

Christmas being right on the heels of Thanksgiving, shortly after New Year the gyms overcrowd as many say to themselves, “whew, I really overdid it. Time to start burning.”

But, for many, with hectic schedules including work, children, and responsibility, it can be difficult to get started, build that habit and then maintain it.

How to begin?

Get specific with your goals.

Make a Specific Self Plan

Make it clear to yourself what you plan to do but be realistic, not:

“I’m going to lose fifty pounds in a week.”

Realistic means it’s achievable and I’m not saying set low goals, but set ones that make sense and you can reach over time without harming yourself. Moreover, setting realistic and achievable goals equates to avoiding the demotivating disappointment if those are not achieved.

Set Long and Short-Term Goals

  • Write down your goals / make a checklist
  • Regularly check your goal progress
  • Remind yourself where you’re headed
  • Develop a goal-achievement strategy
  • Use tools to aid your progress

Tools

I am a longtime Garmin GPS user/customer who tracks their progress using Garmin Connect to keep track of my progress.

As for planning — I also use Map My Run to plot out routes to change my scenery which keeps me less bored when I am out on a walk with my dogs.

Account for Your Personality

Most of us are not The Rock, John Cena, or Australian Emily Skye (oh how I wish) ~ so it goes back to setting realistic goals and more importantly, tailoring your goals to your interests to help avoid getting bored on your journey.

Get Committed to Health Up

Stick to your plan in good times and bad.

Personally, I am torn on whether to exercise when I’m ill, more often than not opting to stay indoors.

Gather support — from your friends and family, surrounding yourself with enthusiastic personalities eager to support you or maybe invite you along on their own fitness journey.

Join a Club – I got into trucking, and joined local trucking clubs affiliated with GoRuck. Amazingly, I dropped a lot of pounds in a short period of time, just by walking with a weighted backpack. Most of the club gatherings (in San Antonio) usually congregate at The Pearl and head out for 5 to sometimes 12-mile training rucks. The conversations make the time pass quickly.

Boredom while exercising is my nemesis…

Good luck out there and let’s health up.
